was named Lydia Pitfield Staniford while Charles' youngest brother was named
Evelyn Pitfield Sturt - both families were thus quite conscious of their Pitfield
ancestry. Their eighth cousin, William Henry Pitfield, was the father of William
James Pitfield who was one of the 1523 people who lost their lives when the
'Titanic' sunk. William James was a 'greaser' in the engine room - his body
was never recovered.)
